FC Schalke 04, founded in 1904, play at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen. The club from the Ruhr won seven German championships and the UEFA Cup in 1997.
Schalke made their name in the 1930s and 1940s with the Schalker Kreisel, a short-passing game that shaped German football. The club is deeply rooted in the mining history of the region.
The Royal Blues have one of the largest followings in Germany. Every home game at the Veltins-Arena produces one of the most impressive backdrops in the country.
